I definitely think that JW teachings can cause mental stress. Forgive & forget, do not bring "reproach" on J's name , do what you are told even if it does not make sense from a human standpoint, if you do not have two Witnesses, forget about it. Shun your family when they do not believe the same as you do, don't take an organ transplant it's cannibalism... Oops no it's not cannibalism anymore sorry your family member died. No blood fractions okay blood fractions are okay. And on and on and on

Relative rates of mental illness
by Doug Mason ina report produced 50 years ago by a psychiatrist at a west australian mental health facility ("asylum"l reported that the mental illness rate among jws was 3 times the norm of society.
other similar studies at the time concluded the rate was much higher.. i wrote to the psychiatrist at the time, asking whether the wts attracted people who were already susceptible to mental illness or if the situation was created after the person became a jw.
he responded that they did not know.. being myopically focused on the wts at the time, but more importantly belonging to an alternative eschatological apocalyptic body at the time, i did not think more broadly.. i think that today i would like to know:.

Do older faders fear better than younger faders
by joe134cd ini read and replied to a post today about weather there were any benefits in been a jw.
as much as i now dislike the religion, i had to agree that there was an up side, due to their strong stance on alcohol, gambling, smoking, and sexual practice.
we would all agree that these can be terrible vices that can get out of control.. i was at one point a true believer, who believed in these rules, and to a point have benefited from abstaining from these practices.

I have spoken to people of all ages, and like to ask, "what made you leave?"
Even if it was simply for noting hypocrisy of treatment (elders letting one person's sin slide, vs another's) IF they keep doing research, to see this organization is built on bull****, THEN they are able to really escape, and stay out.
It does not matter the age, it matters the research and education!

Reg Pioneers went down around 50,000 ?
by Wakanda inyesterday's wt study (june 17) said: .
records show that in the last five years, the average number of regular pioneers has grown to over 1,100,000 and more than a quarter of a million worldwide have been added to the ranks of full-time preachers.. well, in 2013 they had an average of 950,022 pioneers, and in 2017 they had 1,249,946. looks like they lost some!.
also, the quarter million was a lot of turnover, which... wait for it... any thinking person would know!.

Could the ancient Jews eat pig fractions?
by JeffT inthe recent threads on blood fractions got me to thinking about ways to expose the absurdity of the watchtower's position on blood.
so i thought of the titular question.
would a hebrew have understood the prohibition on pork as meaning he had to avoid "major" pig fractions (ham, bacon, ribs) but "minor" pig fractions like pickled feet and fried pork rinds were ok?

I voted for the first time this year!!! Aaaaand, I worked at the polls! It feels so good to be able to make cast my vote in the direction I want. I want a voice, I have one!
Like one guy said, after voting, "If you don't vote, you have no right to complain" haha!
